Some colleagues are working on something with Cacao Prieto, which I won’t get into, but the point is, I received some free chocolate last week. Cacao Prieto produces 100% organic, Kosher chocolate made from Dominican Cacao. They also distill a line of small batch, cacao-based liqueurs and rums. I love that they say this of their brand: “making one thing the right way might just makes the world a better place.” Agreed.
Any chocolate bar that has nuts is basically a granola bar, and therefore a healthy afternoon snack, right? Dark chocolate actually is good for you, a fact I tell myself almost daily as I scarf it down. It can lower blood pressure, is full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, and obviously, improves mood. The bar I received was made with sugar, brined almonds, salt and vanilla bean. The chocolate itself was very smooth, dark and rich – my colleague said it “tasted expensive,” in a good way. The almonds were soft and understated, and the salt just added to the overall flavor of the bar. I loved it; the only thing I can think of that would make it better is the addition of caramel, but that’s just my personal preference.
The chocolate bar was pretty big, and good for sharing which means a lot coming from me, because I don’t like to share my chocolate. The well-thought-out packaging was made from nice, thick paper, and the front actually detached and is an adorable postcard.
Although I ate this at my office in Manhattan, I labeled it as “Brooklyn” since that’s where they’re based. I’ll need to get down to their headquarters sometime and check it out for myself. Hopefully they give out free samples!
